Institut Aspen France has for the first time taken the initiative of launching a leadership development seminar in 2006 for the upcoming generation of men and women in politics who aspire to positions of responsibility in public affairs in the coming years.
Exercising political responsibilities today is more demanding than ever. And yet, those who hold political offices or who aspire to them are not usually prepared for these functions other than – at best – by empirical advice from their predecessors, the failures they have experienced and whose lessons they may be able to learn from for the future or, lastly, recommendations from some communication guru. We therefore felt that there was a real need to organize a real exchange of viewpoints and experiences.
Twenty-two leaders (15 frenchmen and 7 french speakers: Belgium, Egypt, Lebanon, Morocco, Swiss, Senegal) were selected at the end of a rigorous process by forty nominators (political parties, political personalities, think tanks, observers of political life) chaired by Mrs Simone Veil.
The seminar is organized in four modules, two days each: they go over the three main functions of leadership (expressing vision, sharing it and bringing about the change it entails), with the last module concluding the cycle by exploring the driving forces behind leadership.
